About Putnamville Correctional Facility:
Putnamville Correctional Facility is a medium‑security facility in Greencastle, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 2,500 incarcerated adult males. Established in 1914, the facility has earned notable environmental and community service awards. Programming includes The Last Mile, which offers training in coding and multimedia production. Additional programs focus on education, parenting, and vocational development. Incarcerated individuals are encouraged to build skills that support re‑entry success. Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $29,588.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Coordinate operation of the laundry/clothing issue departments, complying with IDOC and facility policies and procedure.
- Instruct team on proper laundering of various fabrics.
- Maintain inventory of needed supplies.
- Supervise, properly train, and maintain offender staffing levels in the laundry department.
- Enter offender clothing data into computer database.
- Train offender tailors and supervise clothing and upholstery repairs.
- Ensure proper storage of all chemicals used in the laundry department.
- Ensure safe and sanitary conditions are maintained in the laundry area as per state and federal regulations and guidelines.
- Operate all laundry equipment and perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
- Specialized knowledge of the equipment in the laundry department and their proper operation as well as new equipment and supplies.
- Ability to instruct and train on proper laundering methods, use of equipment, and proper work habits.
- Specialized knowledge of, and ability to select, proper cleaning agents needed to launder or dry clean fabrics.
- Practical knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding sanitation and safety.
- General knowledge of institution regulation, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to maintain accurate inventory, time, wage, and equipment records.
- Ability to plan and implement efficient procedures to carry out laundry services.
- Ability to operate a sewing machine that is used to repair clothing.
A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
