Salary for this position typically starts at $34,398.00 annually.

About the Job

You will perform a full range of electrical maintenance, repair and installation of electrical equipment and controls, using electrical power provided by the power company at the Fort Wayne Air Base.

A Day in the Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Troubleshoots, maintains and repairs institutional electrical power distribution systems, overhead and in tunnels, including high voltage power lines, electrical circuits, panels, conduit, cable wire, control systems and electric motors;
  • Repairs laundry, housekeeping and kitchen equipment and appliances, elevators, fire alarm systems, and emergency diesel lighting systems;
  • Tests ground rods and takes ohm readings;
  • Plans and lays out work from drawings and blueprints and estimates labor and materials costs;
  • Conducts preventative maintenance program on all electrical components;
  • Installs, changes and repairs light fixtures, receptacles and ballasts;
  • Assists other institutional maintenance departments and outside contractors in the repair of heating and air conditioning systems

What We're Looking For
  • Completion of apprenticeship or high school diploma plus related work experience; related work experience may substitute for formal education where appropriate.
  • Extensive knowledge of electricity and the ability to work with high voltage systems.
  • Specialized knowledge of and ability to apply the National Electric Code (NEC), local and state codes, and Life Safety codes
  • High school diploma or HSE (high school equivilency)
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
What You'll Need for Success
  • Working knowledge of electronics, diesel generation distribution systems, and heating/cooling principles;
  • Ability to use a variety of specialized tools and electrical measuring equipment, such as ammeters, high voltage probes, digital multimeters, conduit threaders and benders;
  • Ability to install, diagnose, and repair electrical wiring;
  • Ability to read and understand electrical blueprints;
  • Ability to legally and safely operate maintenance vehicles, such as hi-lifts, bucket trucks, and back hoes;
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
