Role Overview:
You will serve as grounds person for the Air National Guard Base at Fort Wayne. You will be responsible for the roads and grounds, grounds equipment, and needed repairs, alterations, and general maintenance. You must be able to obtain and hold a secret military security clearance.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $34,216.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Check and order supplies and other equipment needed for jobs.
- Direct and work with employees in accomplishing tasks.
- Clean wooded areas and riverbanks.
- Plant trees, shrubbery, and flowers.
- Inspect landscapes by mowing and cleans grounds.
- Maintain roadways and hauls gravel, blacktop, or oil.
- Operate snow removal equipment on roads, sidewalks, and parking lots
- Haul television sets to repair shops.
- Set up beds and other furniture as need arises for one area to another.
- Supervise spraying and pruning of bushes, vines, flowers, and trees regularly.
- See, fertilizes and roll lawns.
- Repair, install and maintain all grounds equipment.
- Replace damaged or fallen signs and reflector during snow, ice or fire emergencies and roof collapses.
- Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
- Broad knowledge of various grounds and roads maintenance practices.
- Broad knowledge of landscaping and road repair techniques and procedures.
- Ability to prepare and use formulas for insecticides.
- Ability to set up and maintain accurate reports and records.
- Through knowledge of and ability to use skills in trades, which may include operating jackhammers. compressors, graders, dozers, and snowplows.
- Mechanical skills used to maintenance and repair of assigned shop equipment such as mowers, trimmers and saws.
- May be required to obtain CDL license to operate assigned vehicles on roadways.
- Ability to obtain a favorable military clearance to obtain an access card.
A degree is not required.
