About Governor's Summer Internship Program: 

The Governor’s Public Service Summer Internship (GPSSI) is designed to give college students real world, hands on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the Governor’s Public Service Summer Internship will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.


Hiring Salary:

The Indiana Department of Transportation's (INDOT) summer internship program is a paid summer internship that lasts approximately 3.5 months. Listed salary is approximate. The hourly wage is $11.30.


About the Job:

INDOT is committed to providing its summer interns with one of the most practical, job-relevant experiences available to help them develop their professional skills and bolster their resume. In addition, our internships are designed to allow interns to work in a hands-on environment with current INDOT managers and leaders, allowing them to develop their communication and leadership skills.

In addition to the responsibilities of each individual internships, interns will have the chance to participate in a Speaker Series, which features various elected officials, state agency directors and other government representatives. Students are encouraged to interact with one another regarding their varying experiences and to attend any meetings and forums throughout the Government Center complex that are open to the public and would enhance their summer experience.

A Day in the Life:

Fort Wayne District Construction is seeking a motivated engineering student to work in a hands-on environment with current INDOT managers and leaders, allowing them to develop their communication and leadership skills.

What We're Looking For:
  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited university's Civil Engineering or related program. 
  • Considerable knowledge in use of computer, CADD & drafting equipment;
  • Basic Knowledge of civil engineering technology;
  • Ability to understand civil engineering technology; use statistical analysis; comprehend & interpret plans & specifications to design standard plans; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; handle routine & sensitive contacts with public, government officials & property owners concerning assigned projects.
  • Detail Oriented;
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and perform other physical activities such as: stooping, standing, walking for long periods of time, dragging, bending, and/or waving. When working outside, may work in inclement weather, heat and cold while performing physical activities such as going up and down slopes.
