About Evansville Psychiatric Children's Center:

Evansville Psychiatric Children’s Center (EPCC) takes an interdisciplinary approach that provides strategies for the child’s biological, psychological and social treatment at the same time. All of our staff go through many hours of training to each play their important part in the approach. Youth are learning by two main methods, modeling and teaching, through therapeutic relationships established with the treatment staff.

 

Our staff believe in recovery and always approach situations with a trauma-informed frame of reference. About the Job:

The Rehab Therapist  is responsible for coordinating and facilitating of treatment programs and activities for the Rehabilitation Department within policy guidelines of the Division of Mental Health and Addiction as stated in law and prescribed by the Clinical and Medical Directors to ensure the execution of effective treatment and training.Working closely with the clinical director, medical director, other physicians and staff in other departments. Accepting guidance and displaying leadership as necessary. Also,serves as a professional representative at various meetings and committees.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and participates in the development of individual patients’/residents’ treatment plans;
  • Assesses individual patient/resident interests, needs, skills and limitations to provide input into development of appropriate treatment plans and training programs;
  • Plans and directs various rehabilitative activities for individual and group participation in accordance with treatment plans;
  • Stimulates patients’ interest in activities to encourage their participation and progress;
  • Advises and reinforces patients on acceptable social behavior;
  • Prepares and maintains monthly reports, progress reports and daily documentation as necessary;
  • Supervises, trains and coordinates activities of non-professional and lower-level direct-care staff;
  • Evaluates patients’/residents’ progress as measured against treatment goals and objectives;

What We're Looking For:

  • Significant knowledge of best practices used in the treatment of persons diagnosed with a serious mental illness.
  • The ability to utilize a variety of active and expressive therapies as an intervention in the treatment of mentally ill individuals in order to bring about positive change.
  • The ability to integrate identified treatment models into programming.
  • The ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically.
  • Ability to use the computer, beginner office software, and selected electronic medical records systems.
  • The ability to multi task assignments and ensure thoroughness of work and projects.
  • The ability to remain flexible with daily assignments and make changes with short notice.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with a variety of disciplines, departments, and support services.
  • The ability to plan and respond appropriately when high risk factors are present in the clinical setting.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in rehabilitative services
  • Bachelors Degree with rehabilitative therapies course work

What You'll Need For Success:

  • Specialized knowledge of purposes, principles and practices of providing rehabilitation services usually with emphasis on recreation, music, vocational or occupational therapy;
  • Working knowledge of causes, symptoms and limitations of various mental and developmental disabilities and methods of rehabilitation;
  • Ability to provide input into development of individual treatment plans integrating rehabilitation programs into an interdisciplinary approach to treatment;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals of all functioning levels and to lead individual and group activities;
  • Ability to train, supervise and coordinate work of lower-level professionals and non-professionals;
  • Ability to evaluate patients’/residents’ progress and to make recommendations regarding effective rehabilitation activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
