About Evansville Psychiatric Children's Center:

Evansville Psychiatric Children’s Center (EPCC) takes an interdisciplinary approach that provides strategies for the child’s biological, psychological and social treatment at the same time. All of our staff go through many hours of training to each play their important part in the approach. Youth are learning by two main methods, modeling and teaching, through therapeutic relationships established with the treatment staff.

 

Our staff believe in recovery and always approach situations with a trauma-informed frame of reference. We know that a program must balance warmth, caring, respect and compassion with the right amount of firmness, realistic tolerances and excellent teaching to help children learn and grow.  We look forward to being a change agent for children and families in need.

 

Salary:

This position traditionally starts at an hourly wage of $13.21 and then increases to $14.54 after six months.

About the Job:

A Behavioral Health Recovery Attendant (BHRA) provides direct care to patients on the dorms.  Assists with daily routines within the framework of clinical responsibilities following nursing department, hospital, Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) and State guidelines and policies. Works under the clinical supervision of a licensed nurse to provide patient care, helping patients meet their physical and emotional needs.

Day In The Life:
  • Responsible for the daily physical care of the patients.
  • Provides the children with basic skills of daily living.
  • Reports all minor first aid needs to the supervisor.
  • Completes incident/injury forms as needed, within 24 hours of the incident.
  • Adheres to EPCC and DMHA policies.
  • Teaches and assists with teaching patients basic daily general health care.
  • Utilizes trauma informed care, therapeutic relationships and SOAR in the psycho-social care of the patient.
  • Encourages patients to socialize and participate in activities.
  • Conducts self as role model when working with patients.
  • Encourages the display of acceptable behavior daily and sets consistent, realistic limits.
  • Uses appropriate therapeutic de-escalation techniques. Uses positive reinforcement verbally and through the SOAR program.
  • Maintains a safe and secure environment.
What We're Looking For:

You're an ideal candidate if you have your high school diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate (HSE).

What You'll Need for Success:
  • Must obtain CPR, Bridge Building, SOAR certification, demonstrate the ability to perform techniques and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic procedures of client daily living (including personal hygiene and general health care;
  • Organizational ability to carry out programs and policies;
  • Ability to provide low stimulating therapeutic environment;
  • Knowledge of transportation and off grounds procedures to escort as assigned/needed;
  • Knowledge of and follows treatment plans of clients;
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow appropriate techniques, hospital guidelines and treatment plans;
  • Knowledge of verbal de-escalation and various therapeutic intervention techniques;
  • Knowledge of SOAR program;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Knowledge of and uses appropriate safety program, incident/injury form and procedures;
  • Maintain security of environment;
