Role Overview:
The Tax Services Supervisor leads a staff of Customer Service Representatives to ensure the highest level of customer service to our taxpayers. You will implement sectional goals and objectives, ensure employee development, and establish effective and efficient operational flows in the area. You will work to ensure the highest level of customer focus, with a strong commitment to the taxpayers of Indiana through continuous, innovative methods to increase accuracy, efficiency, and productivity in all areas of departmental operations and tax administration.
Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $53,222 but may be commensurate with education and job experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are:
- Develop and plan staff training.
- Establish standards, guidelines, priorities, and work assignments to ensure optimal workflow and productivity.
- Work with Division Administrator and Deputy Administrator to develop and monitor achievement of long-range goals and objectives.
- Guide tax analysts in resolving complex, unusual problems or questions.
- Interview and hire staff personnel.
- Counsel and discipline employees.
- Represent the division in public contacts and speeches to various organizations and agencies.
- Prepare, conduct, and evaluate training courses for individual sales and withholding taxes and procedural issues.
- Assess proposed legislation to determine potential impact on the division’s goals and missions.
- Make budget recommendations regarding procurement, overtime, and equipment.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- Three (3) years of experience in supervision required (or 2 years experience as a Department of Revenue Working Lead may substitute for supervisory experience)
- Extensive knowledge of State and Federal personnel and tax laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines
- Extensive knowledge of the procedures for properly preparing the various tax returns and forms
- Extensive knowledge of State and Federal laws and legal procedures pertaining to estates and trusts
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to apply and understand ethics and confidentiality laws
- Ability to conduct research, interpret and apply tax laws to resolve complex tax issues using various legal resources
- Ability to delegate work set clear direction, and manage workflow
- Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets
- The ability to maintain confidentiality is essential to this position.
