Salary for this position typically starts at $50,206.

Now imagine your are the person who is conducting the audit.  Are you the great Revenue Tax Auditor we are looking for?

 

We are searching for dynamic, talented, and qualified professionals to join our Enforcement Division. You will conduct field audits on behalf of the State of Indiana on a vast array of taxpayers.   The auditors analyze the books and records of the business to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

 

You also, work to ensure the highest level of customer focus, with a strong commitment to the taxpayers of Indiana through continuous, innovative methods to increase accuracy, efficiency and productivity in all areas of departmental operations and tax administration.

 

But why stop there?  During your first 2 years on the job, you will have the opportunity to further develop with on the job training.  As you progress you will get to work on more complex audits that will help you to develop into a subject matter expert with promotional opportunities.  Working as a revenue tax auditor does qualify towards your CPA work experience requirement.

 

This position will be assigend to our Evansville District office and will require travel to audit sites sometimes overnight and out of state. 

A Day in the Life:

  • Performs both team and individual field audits on tax returns of small businesses of limited difficulty and complexity in a variety of business and industries for all listed taxes.
  • Travels mostly within the established jurisdiction in Indiana to conduct audits; Travels outside of Indiana when required.
  • Conducts pre-audit analysis on audit files to develop a list of preliminary questions and/or areas of concern.
  • Writes audit reports, summarizing audit results in a clear and concise manner.
  • Clearly and diplomatically explains audit scope, audit adjustments, tax laws, and policies to taxpayer representatives in order to resolve misunderstandings and errors.
  • Performs administrative functions which may include preparing and updating a file inventory log, a calendar, travel vouchers and attendance reports.
  • Interprets Indiana Tax Code, audit procedures and regulations.
  • Utilizes the integrated tax system, computerized audit programs, Microsoft products,  the Internet, and research materials specific to the taxpayer to identify areas of potential problems.
  • Maintains records of activities and progress during examinations.
  • Conducts audits on a statistical sampling basis, if applicable.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business or related field, with a minimum of 15 hours of accounting

  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other agency  and division employees and  the public;
  • Ability to respond to technical questions from taxpayers and other agency staff;
  • Ability to apply related principles and theories when necessary;

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
