Summary/Objective:

The Charge Nurse Supervisor provides leadership and supervision to nursing staff on the third shift at a state hospital.

  Four (4) 10 hour shifts per week, every other weekend, rotating holidays, and potential for mandatory and/or voluntary overtime. Hours 10:30pm to 8:30am.
Essential Job Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Provides direct administrative supervision and directs nursing staff on all units;
  • Responds immediately to problems on service line;
  • Communicates nursing problems to the Director of Nursing (DON) or Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) in a timely manner;
  • Plans, organizes and directs staffing levels on a daily basis to ensure adequate coverages;
  • Verifies service line orientation is completed for new staff within one week of assignments;
  • Assures all staff complete mandatory training by established deadlines;
  • Assists in monitoring nursing orientation and continued education curricula for quality and effectiveness;
  • Assists in developing standards of practice and assures nursing standard compliance;
  • Reviews all submitted report follow ups and makes corrections as needed;
  • Relays policy and procedure information and clarification;
  • Reports critical incidents to hospital, DMHA staff as appropriate;

Preferred Experience:
Requirements:
  • Current valid State of Indiana RN license;
  • Current CPR certification;
  • Management/supervisory experience essential;
  • Must be competent in staff scheduling;
  • Knowledge of nursing principles and practices for psychiatric patients;
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.
