Summary/Objective:

The Laundry Assistant serves in laundry area of a state facility to assist in cleaning, preparation and drying of clothing and linen. Must have experience.

Hours:

Monday - Friday with occasional Holidays.

6 am - 2 pm

Essential Job Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Soiled Laundry Pick-up - On a routine schedule, pick-up soiled laundry and return to Laundry for processing according to departmental procedures. Also is responsible for knowing how to retrieve soiled laundry from the admission room. New admission laundry procedure for sorting, washing, and completing the laundry process and sending it to the clothing room for marking and mending if needed.
  • Soiled Laundry Handling - Sort, weigh and load soiled laundry.  Program machine and wash all soiled laundry.  Unload washers, place in cart and transport to dryer area.
  • Clean Laundry Handling - Load dryers.  When dry, unload  to sorting tables and fold. 
  • Distribution - Folded laundry placed on appropriate cart and delivered  to areas according to unit inventory levels.
  • Infection Control - Follow  universal precautions and dispose of all waste according to hospital policy and procedures.  All carts to be cleaned weekly.   Daily area clean-up.
  • Safety - Operates machinery in accordance with manufacturer/departmental procedures.  Knowledge of current SDS guidelines. Understands all hospital emergency procedures.

Preferred Experience:
  • Two years of full-time employment or each 2 years of high school may substitute for one year of experience.  A high school diploma will be a substitute for work experience.
  • Must obtain CPR and CPI certification, demonstrate ability to perform techniques, and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Must be able to lift soiled laundry hamper bags during sorting process. And the retrieval from all five units each day.
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Must be able to complete necessary reports and order forms both on the computer and paper form.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

Requirements:
  • Working knowledge of, and the ability to operate and perform simple maintenance on a variety of laundry equipment.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to shake out, rack, press and fold clothing and linens.
  • Ability to drive truck as needed.
  • Ability to sew and operate sewing machine.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
