Salary Information:

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $29,640.00

 

About the Job:

You will assist in performing maintenance to buildings and grounds at Camp Atterbury. Assistance to carpentry department is successful in the Military Environment because Cultural and Mechanical Strategies are incorporated into existing custodial and Maintenance Activities.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this roles are as follows:

  • Performs economical erosion control of Buildings and Grounds.
  • Communicates with customers daily to handle all quality issues, holds, releases, special projects, and special requests.
  • Improves processes for increasing both efficiency and effectiveness
  • May be required to perform preventative Maintenance on buildings for problems of lights, doors, windows, etc.
  • Install, repair, and maintain all phases of electrical breaker boxes, switches, exhaust fans, lights, exit lights, security lights, water coolers, kitchen equipment, etc.
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as: water pumps, sinks, toilets, showers, water heaters, faucets, drain lines, etc.
  • Build, install and repair walls, porches, additions to buildings, doors, locks, screens, windows, drywall, floor tile, roofing, gutters, siding, soffit, bulletin boards, cabinets, counters, furniture, etc.
  • Performs grounds maintenance work including, but not limited to mowing, trimming, fertilizing, leaf removal, trash pick-up, snow, and ice removal.
  • Must annually complete and pass the IDOC Distance Learning and Crew Supervisor Course to draw and/or supervise an IDOC crew as needed.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • At least one year of maintenance experience.
  • Ability to use and repair a wide variety of hand and power tools, vehicles, and small engines.
  • Working knowledge of, and ability to use skills in, carpentry, welding, masonry, and plumbing.
  • Ability to make repairs to electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to use and repair a wide variety of hand and power tools, vehicles, and small engines.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Ability to set tile and finish concrete and plaster.
  • Ability to coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to read and follow guidelines and blueprints and to handle simple mathematical problem when making repairs.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools in making repairs.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
     

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
