Salary Information:

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $47,606.00.


About the Job:

You will create, modify and maintain Geographic Information System (GIS) data layers (SDE, PGDB, and SHP files), create maps, administer GIS applications, serve as a technical expert for GIS development, and database administrator for Spatial Database Engine for the Sustainable Range Program (SRP).  The Sustainable Range Program is a division of the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security (DPTMS) and is comprised of both Range Training Land Program (RTLP) and Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM). You will serve as focal point on GIS software issues for DPTMS. 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Maintain and update ArcSDE database; Administer SDE database
  • Maintain and update Personal Geodatabases and Shape Files
  • Develop, acquire, create, and assess GIS data; Generate (or create) maps and metadata
  • Assist in range planning
  • Use of ArcGIS extensions for military purposes
  • Provides GIS technical support
  • Apply federal regulations to metadata and database design
  • Use SDSFIE data standards and database design
  • Geo-referencing, warping, and rubber-sheeting aerials and other images
  • Support 47 SRP Data Layers

What You'll Need for Success:

  • BA/BS in Geography, GIS, Computer Science or related field is preferred;
  • Five years of hands on GIS experience can be substituted for BA/BS;
  • Must have experience with ArcGIS 9.2 and/or 9.3, ArcGIS Personal Geodatabase, shape file format, ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox, ArcEditor, and the ability to solve problems independently; Incoming employee must take and pass military GIS and safety classes;
  • On occasion, weekend work could be required;
  • Incoming employee must be able to tolerate occasional travel for this position

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
