Salary:

 

This position traditionally starts at $42,094 per year and may be commensurate with education and work experience.

About the Job:

You will serve as a construction project engineer for the Army National guard (OMARNG) Major Construction and Maintenance/Repair projects for the Directorate of Public Works at Camp Atterbury, which includes planning, designing, writing specification, and on-site supervision. Work consists of complex construction projects that are broad in scope and have many interrelated variables. 

A Day in the Life:

​The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Executes, coordinates, and assists in the preparation of projects; design plans, specifications and bidding documents;
  • Reviews documents submitted by contractors for technical adequacy and compliance with construction specifications, federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations;
  • Coordinates the work Architect-Engineering companies, construction contractors and utility companies at several project sites;
  • Conduct daily site visits and inspections;
  • Reviews and analyzes proposed design and /or specifications changes while construction is in process; Provides technical engineering guidance on construction projects;
  • Develops and prepares project justification documents (NGB 420r and DD 1390/91), including cost estimates, bills of materials, and supporting technical date for unusual requirements.
  • Maintains projects books and files relating to the authorization, design, progress, construction, costs and completion of all OMARNG Major Construction and Maintenance/Repair projects;
  • Prepares/reviews and submits environmental documents, site survey reports, soil analysis reports and energy source selection reports;

    What You'll Need for Success:

    You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

    • Knowledge and skill typically acquired through a Baccalaureate degree (degree in civil engineering or related field desired) plus related work experience; related academic training plus comparable work experience or comparable work alone may substitute for a Baccalaureate degree where appropriate;
    • Extensive knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BARS);
    • Knowledge of wind, solar, alternative fuel, and ground source building systems;
    • LEED certified;
    • Extensive knowledge of construction and engineering principles, practices and techniques;
    • Ability to analyze and evaluate complex technical design and specifications and determine how alterations may effect all facets of a project;
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
    • Ability to utilize CAD drafting skills in preparing designs;
    • Ability to keep abreast of new developments and technologies relating to engineering and construction;
    • Must have and maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
