Salary Information:

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $52,832.00

 

About the Job:

You will be responsible for firefighting, fire prevention, and fire safety Camp Atterbury and Muscatatuck Urban Training Center.  You will drive/operate (D/O) fire department equipment and vehicles.  You will perform fire prevention inspections, firefighting, aircraft rescue; or in other situations which include performing basic emergency first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the use of a semi-automated external defibrillator.  You will be responsible for the supervision and administrative oversight of assigned crew members.  You will coordinate with, and provide direction to other individuals, such as military personnel, in the accomplishment of emergency duties.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Supervises and evaluates assigned firefighters as directed by Director of Public Works
  • Responds to structural, wildland, and airfield fires and other emergencies according to standard operating procedures and training.
  • Operates the fire apparatus and equipment when fighting fires.
  • Presents formal and informal instructional sessions, lectures, and hands-on training.
  • Performs crash/rescue and firefighting duties at airfields handling rotary and medium sized fixed wing aircraft.
  • Directs water through turrets and handlines during air fire and rescue events.
  • Demonstrates proper use and maintenance of all assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Supervises fire extinguisher maintenance and training for A-M assigned, tenant, and transient personnel.
  • Schedules building inspections, planning, and technical service support.
  • Complies with all appropriate protective and safety requirements in accordance with Life Safety Standards, OSHA, and NFPA.
  • Prepares and distributes critical incident reports.
  • Supervises Station equipment and facility maintenance, to include all living and work areas.
  • Responds to contingency operations (bomb threats, terrorist activities, etc.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. 
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE). 
  • Qualifies as Certified Firefighter I/II, D/O for all equipment and vehicles, Inspector I, and Fire Officer I within one (1) year.
  • Drives and operates fire department pumper, MWS (mobile water supply), ARFF, and wildland vehicles.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of department policies, procedures and standards, and the ability to explain and teach them.
  • Trains for hazardous materials awareness/operations and containment IAW DoD directives within one (1) year.
  • Obtains First Responder/EMT-B certification with semi-automatic external defibrillator certification within one (1) year.
  • Meets and maintains medical readiness standards as outlined in NFPA 1582.
  • Participates in the organization's random drug testing program.
  • Receives and maintains security clearance of secret.
  • Maintains a valid Indiana Driver’s License.
  • Passes Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) prior to final selection.
     

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.
