About the Integrated Public Safety Commission (IPSC)

The IPSC facilitates statewide public safety communications. IPSC provides interoperable and reliable public safety communications systems to all Hoosier first responders and public safety professionals for use during routine, emergency, and task force situations. Our goal is to strengthen community safety and security by minimizing the financial and technological barriers to interoperable communications through interagency cooperation.

 

Role Overview

This Field Service Technician position with the Integrated Public Safety Commission serves to maintain sites within the southern region of Indiana. Statewide daily travel is required for the position. You will be required to perform site visits, report/perform site repairs, and work with external agencies for radio performance upkeep. Those with telecommunication/networking experience and a General Radio Operating License (GROL) or EXTRA Class radio license are encouraged to apply. 


Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $55,224.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Coordinates and facilitates timely repairs ensuring the availability of technology related systems and office equipment.

  • Ensures agency employees are equipped with the necessary wireless communications including cellular phones, pagers, PDA’s, etc.

  • Makes recommendations for purchases concerning data communications and telephony systems and equipment and services.

  • Participates in the development of communications and telephony technical standards and policies.

  • Recommends and facilitates quality improvement efforts;

  • Tests, adjusts and troubleshoots equipment.

  • Promotes the utilization of technical services to resolve business issues within the agency.

  • Participates in the development of communications and telephony requirements based on customer needs.

  • Serves as consultant to agency employees on how to use and program communications and telephony equipment.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Extensive knowledge of voice and data communications analysis and design techniques, IP Telephony products and network.

  • Advanced knowledge of PBX/Key systems, ACD, IVR and other telephone technical problems and solutions.

  • Advanced knowledge of state procurement policies, procedures and standards.

  • Thorough knowledge of structured cabling systems and industry standards including outside cable plant, horizontal and station cabling.

  • Considerable knowledge of pagers, cellular phones and similar wireless devices.

  • Extensive knowledge of all guidelines, policies and procedures related to data and voice services.

  • Working knowledge of electrical circuits.

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret complex manuals and blueprints.

  • Ability to identify and resolve problems or develop creative solutions when necessary.

  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
