About Harrison-Crawford State Forest:

Harrison-Crawford State Forest lies in the central and extreme southern part of the state, bordering the Ohio River. Established in 1932, the forest contains about 24,000 acres of rugged hardwood forest in western Harrison and eastern Crawford counties. This working forest is a favorite destination for sightseers, birdwatchers, hikers, mountain bikers, horse riders, anglers, and hunters. It is about 2 ½ hours south of Indianapolis, 2 hours east of Evansville, 15 minutes west of Historic Corydon, and 45 minutes west of Louisville, Kentucky. It surrounds the 2,000-acre O’Bannon Woods State Park (formerly Wyandotte Woods State Recreation Area) which offers a variety of recreational opportunities. The state park and state forest here work in a unique partnership, with many of the recreational facilities situated on state forest land but operated by the state park.

 

Salary Information:

This role starts at a base salary of $29,640; however, pay may be commensurate with experience.

About the Job:

In this Maintenance Repair position, you will act as a senior worker providing preventative maintenance services and repairs to equipment, machinery, buildings, and grounds in a variety of trade areas.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this roles are as follows:

  • Make both routine and non-routine masonry, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs and replacements.
  • Assist a skilled tradesperson on major projects including installation of new plumbing or electrical equipment in an entire area or forming and pouring sidewalks, steps and ramps.
  • Act as the team leader to lower-level maintenance personnel coordinating and assigning their work on a daily basis.
  • Provide preventative maintenance and repairs to specialized equipment in one area of the facility that requires duties in plumbing, electricity, and/or carpentry.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as a bulldozer and/or a grader.
  • Repair small engines including tractors and lawnmowers.
  • Perform light welding.
  • Install tile, window glass, doors, wiring and conduits, plumbing fixtures, and other varied items.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Must possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or must obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to use and repair a wide variety of hand and power tools, vehicles and small engines.
  • Working knowledge of, and ability to use skills in, carpentry, welding, masonry and plumbing.
  • Ability to make repairs to electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to use and repair a wide variety of hand and power tools, vehicles and small engines.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Ability to set tile and finish concrete and plaster.
  • Ability to coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to read and follow guidelines and blueprints and to handle simple mathematical problem when making repairs.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools in making repairs.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
