Salary & Work Location:

This role is typically filled with a starting salary of $25,766. This position will be located in Richmond but is temporarily located in Connersville.

About the Job:

As the Career Advisor Case Manager you will be responsible for providing assessment and career guidance to customers with barriers to employment, assisting employers in filling positions and a variety of special services to clients.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 


  • Gather information from applicants for skilled, unskilled, professional, clerical and support positions to ascertain and evaluate their qualifications, educational backgrounds, special skills, work and training history, occupational interests and employment barriers
  • Develop vocational aid plans which include recommending continued counseling and/or training programs in order to provide best vocational alternatives;
  • Recommend assessment instruments when appropriate, and administers and interprets aptitude, interest and skills tests;
  • Explain services available from other public assistance agencies within the community and makes referrals when appropriate;
  • Assist clients with job searching and resume building activities;
  • Explain services to applicants and advises them concerning appropriate employment or training based upon their qualifications, availability and the economic condition of the community in which the applicant is available to work
  • Refer clients to the appropriate specialist concerning veterans’, disabled veterans’ and other specialized programs when necessary
  • Inform and refers clients to other public assistance agencies and programs when appropriate
  • Conduct orientation classes and training sessions;

What You'll Need for Success:

Education and Work Experience

  • The ideal candidate in this position should minimally have a High School Diploma or HSE (High School Equivelancy) and one (1) year of Customer Service experience or some classes in high education.



  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and resolve complex problems and escalate as necessary
  • Evidence of strong leadership capabilities or previous supervisory experience
  • Ability to manage relationships, motivate and assist customers at various levels 


Technical Proficiency

  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Demonstrated Microsoft Programs: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook preferred.
  • Utilize State’s current client services program.
  • Internet for research into labor market information, veteran programs, services and social media (Example LinkedIn).

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
