About the Heritage Trail Correctional Facility:
Heritage Trail Correctional Facility sits on the grounds of the former Indiana Boys School and Plainfield Re-Entry Educational Facility in Plainfield, Indiana. 

The facility provides a dormitory housing setting that fosters personal responsibility and community participation among the population. At maximum capacity, the facility will provide services for up to 1,066 offenders.


The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 
per year but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.

About the Job:

As the Maintenance Supervisor, you will responsible for overseeing the daily operation/functioning of a diverse group of skilled trade Foreman and Technicians within an Indiana Department of Corrections facility.  In this position, your primary function is to ensure work is completed with a high degree of quality in a safe and secure manner while adhering to the priorities set forth by the supervisor. 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:  

  • Plan the work schedules based on priorities and deadlines for providing facility and maintenance services. 
  • Identify resource needs, review needs with appropriate management staff, and allocate resources accordingly. 
  • Develop and recommend work rules and quality control processes impacting operations.  
  • Develop and organize preventative maintenance and safety inspection programs for all facilities and equipment. 
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety-related rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.  In addition, you will investigate accidents. 
  • Prepare and maintain work reports such as work logs, timesheets, accident reports, etc. 
  • Install, inspect, repair, and maintain the electrical, plumbing, paint, carpet, appliances, mechanical, and other related systems in all facility locations. 
  • Inspect, operate, and maintain the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems (including boiler system) in all facility locations. 
  • Provide equipment, procedural, and systems training to new and existing employees to perform the requisite job skills.  This may include conducting regular onsite facility and grounds maintenance safety training. 
  • Responsible for administering the budget line items for maintenance and repair. 
  • Maintain sufficient inventories of tools, parts, and supplies to properly service the facility and grounds. 
  • Order, prepare specifications, and purchase supplies, equipment, and contract work according to required purchasing and bidding procedures. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors. 
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development. 
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.  Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).  
  • Two (2) years of experience in maintenance, construction, or related experience. Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience in these areas.  
  • Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.   
  • Possess a  Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). 
  • Advanced knowledge of variety of trades related to installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and other related systems in all facility locations. 
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties. 
  • Advanced knowledge of the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades. 
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules governing repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities. 
  • Working knowledge of and ability to plan, understand, and interpret detailed plans, specifications, and blueprints. 
  • Ability to make long-range plans, schedule preventative maintenance and seasonal maintenance, as well as prioritize routine and emergency repairs. 
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow. 
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.
This role provides supervision for offenders and requires a high level of judgment and care.
