Salary Information:

This role traditionally hires at a base salary of $28,366.

About the Job:

The Stores Clerk is responsible for timely commissary functions including, but not limited to; receiving, tracking, and issuing commissary orders, RMA's (Return Merchandise Authorization), grievances and correspondence.  

A Day in the Life:
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Supervises offender workers assigned to Commissary
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Maintains security of distribution rooms
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Supervises and assists in unloading and receiving filled orders (i.e. goods) from Warehouse
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Authorizes accuracy of all orders received in commissary
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Stages orders for distribution
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Distributes individual orders to offenders, and maintains signed receipts
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Inventories damaged goods, and items from cancelled orders
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Initiates credits as needed
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Assists with the sanitation of buildings and grounds
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Operates standard office equipment and appropriate security/safety equipment
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Utilizes software applications for spreadsheets and databases
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Prepares reports as needed
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Maintains confidentiality.

What We're Looking For:
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license from state of residence comparable to an Indiana license required. 
  • Willingness to complete a background check.
  • Must test negative on all drug tests.
  • Possession of a high school diploma OR possession of a High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • Two (2) years full time experience in storeskeeping, bookkeeping, or related area preferred but not required.
What You'll Need for Success:
  • Knowledge of storeskeeping, inventory management, department functions and office procedures;
  • Ability to supervise effectively and obtain results from offenders who may not be work motivated;
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including a computer;
  • Proficiency with PeopleSoft;
  • Ability to work under pressure while still practicing courtesy and professionalism;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Excellent oral and written communication;
  • Willingness to participate in training programs as required by the Department of Correction;
  • Willingness to undergo a background investigation.

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
