Overlooking the Ohio River in Jefferson County, Madison State Hospital (MSH) has served citizens of Indiana for nearly a century.  In 2005, The Joint Commission accredited hospital moved into its state-of-the-art treatment facility created from an extraordinary blend of historic restoration, renovation, and new construction.  It was certified as one of the first LEED (Leadership in Environmental Energy Design) psychiatric facilities in the nation.  The innovative hospital structure parallels the overall mission to establish exemplary standards of psychiatric care.  Downsized over the years, MSH now serves 150 of Indiana’s most severely mentally ill adults with progressive of evidence based treatment modalities to promote their individualized recovery.      

Summary/Objective:

A Housekeeper performs general cleaning duties in state agencies, facilities or offices ranging in size.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Cleans restrooms, sinks and mirrors;
  • Mops and waxes floors;
  • Dusts and polishes furniture;
  • Washes windows, blinds and walls;
  • Distributes paper towels, bathroom tissue, paper cups, cleansing agents, etc;
  • Requisitions, distributes and stores supplies;
  • Reports needed repairs of equipment and facility;

Preferred Experience:
Requirements:
  • Working knowledge of the proper care of, and ability to use, cleaning equipment such as mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, power scrubbers, polishers and buffers;
  • Working knowledge of the variety and uses of cleaning and sanitizing agents;
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
  • Assists in training new employees and complete necessary reports and order forms;
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
