Unpaid Internship:

The Indiana Department of Transportation's (INDOT) summer internship program is an unpaid summer internship that lasts approximately 3.5 months.

About the Job:

This position will serve as a summer Intern for both the Workforce Development and Diversity & Inclusion Divisions of the Indiana Department of Transportation.  The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support.  The objective of the position is to provide a valuable learning experience for the intern, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities.  The Intern will report to Workforce Development Director. 

A Day in the Life:

  • Serve as point of contact for community partners for re-entry program
  • Manage incoming referrals from re-entry partners
  • Support Director by building partnerships with K12, adult education providers, and community non-profits
  • Assist in data tracking efforts related to workforce programs
  • Consult with Workforce Development Director on community outreach efforts, program management, and workforce development activities
  • Support Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager on various tasks by analyzing data to identify trends
  • Develop action plans to drive internal inclusivity activities
  • Conduct research and benchmarking of “best in class” companies in Diversity & Inclusion space
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Relevant work experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT
  • Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
  • Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects
  • Ability to operate computer tools
  • Good research and writing skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
  • Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances
