Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites

The mission of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites is to celebrate, explore and steward all that is authentically wondrous about Indiana.  The ISMHS is a forward-thinking, unparalleled resource for learning about and appreciating Indiana and its role in the world. We discover, collect, preserve, interpret and present artifacts and exhibits that showcase the stories of Indiana's natural and cultural history, art and science.


This position pays a rate of $10.00 per hour.  This is a short term full-time position with a working period of up to 7 weeks.

Intermittent Education Engagement Specialist:

The Education Engagement Specialist Intermittent will assist with the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of all programming and services for K-12 students, educators, homeschool families, scouts, afterschool youth, and parents at the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites. 

A day in the life:

• Assist with preparation, and facilitation of K-12 education programs including school workshops, outreach programs, camps, classes and daily engagement experiences

• Prepare all materials for programs and set up of classroom including rosters, program materials, and evaluations

• Assist in the facilitation of demonstrations and programs. Encourage creativity and exploration with program participants through hands-on, minds-on learning.

• Support Visitor Services in providing a welcoming environment for all museum visitors

• Provide excellent customer service to daily visitors, students, educators and parents

-Provide a safe environment for play, learning and discovery with campers.

-Assist will museum related demonstrations and programs.

-Engage visitors in museum galleries through daily engagement activities.

• Other duties as assigned

What we're looking for:

- Bachelors degree preferred in Elementary Education, Science Education, Child Development, Art Education, Museum Studies or a related major supplemented by relevant work experience. 

-Abilitity to communicate information to multiple audiences, including children in a wide variety of formats.

-Ability to work a flexible schedule from week to week, mostly Monday-Friday; some weekends as scheduled.

-Exhibit excellent public speaking skills, enthusiasm and creativity while interacting with visitors of all ages and abilities.

-Must be a team player.

-Experience working with children in a camp, educational, or childcare setting.

-Ability to maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
