Field Examiner (central Indiana counties)

Field Audit Examiners perform allocated audit tasks in accordance with the approved plan to ensure audits are completed in an efficient and effective manner.  Such performance should also be consistent with professional auditing practices.  The successful candidate will also prepare draft reports, correspondence and recommendation to ensure the provision of information to other auditor’s and Management.

We are currently seeking Field Examiners state-wide; however, this is a posting meant to build a pool of candidates who live in, are willing to relocate to, or are able to work/travel in central Indiana

Successful candidates will be hired as a Field Examiner 3 at an annual salary of $43,004. Promotional opportunities are possible and encouraged.

  • There are multiple positions available state wide. 
  • Selected applicant will work a full-time, 4 day work schedule. 
  • Position will involve travel to surrounding counties. Travel outside of home county reimbursed at prevailing state reimbursement rate.

A day in the life

Responsibilities include auditing transactions of entities receiving federal, state and local funds for compliance with applicable rules and regulations:

  • Preparation of work papers detailing auditing procedures followed and conclusions reached during the testing performed in obtaining sufficient competent evidence
  • Application of applicable laws and principles to a particular transaction; and the preparation of an audit report.
  • Attain a satisfactory level of communication with officials and other governmental personnel, informing them of problems found throughout the audit and advising them of solutions to these problems
  • Responsibility for segments of audits under the supervision of more experienced staff and, ultimately, lead small to mid-size audits before consideration for a promotion to Field Examiner 2.

What we're looking for

The successful candidate must meet at least one of the following three criteria to be considered:

  • Must currently possess, or will be attaining within the school year, a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with a  3.0 GPA based on a scale of 4.0 (transcript must be furnished), OR
  • Applicant must have passed the Certified Public Accountants Examination, OR
  • Applicant must be eligible to sit for the Certified Public Accountants Examination.

Additionally, the successful candidate should possess a broad knowledge of all governmental and general accounting and auditing including principles, theories, standards and pronouncements such as those established by Financial Accounting Standards Board, Governmental Accounting Standards Board, US Government Accountability Office, and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

May serve as a direct team lead for an assigned work group.
