Salary for this position starts at $55,000 but is commensurate with education and job experience

Data Analyst

The Data Analyst is responsible for intense data review and quality control of the state of Indiana’s educational assessment programs for K-12.  In this role you will work as the subject matter expert in data analysis for IDOE and partner with assessment team members and school corporations to communicate analysis of assessments.  You will be responsible creating a range of values for the reporting system including highest and lowest expected scores to provide a baseline for analysis.

In this role you will also be expected to assist and trouble shoot technology used for assessments statewide. You will need to stay abreast of current policy in order to answer questions and assist the public regarding these assessments.

A day in the life
  • Develops and implements data collection schedule for delivery of assessment programs for current year.
  • Develops process for submitting and reviewing data associated with test submission and subsequent data reviews (test deck). 
  • Reviews reports delivered from the vendor for data forensics.  Implement protocol for flagged sessions.
  • Verify data within technology platforms related to test irregularity or security issues, including but not to test invalidations. 
  • Develop and implement data QC processes for the importing and exporting of assessment data to/from IDOE and to/from assessment vendor systems.
  • Create Dashboards that show testing irregularities
  • Data steward for Office of Assessment; liaison with IDOE data management and reporting teams.
  • Designs and implements escalation path and key communications to manage outages with test delivery platforms.
  • Attends and participates in vendor-led training opportunities regarding technology implementation.
  • Assists with the day-to-day aspects of assessment programs.
  • Attends and participates in weekly status meetings and planning meetings with assessment vendors.
  • Collaborates with assessment specialists to define project schedule for internal and external technology and other data related and assessment-related deliverables.
  • Reviews test administration manuals and guidance documents for technology components related to assessment programs.
  • Works as part of a team with assessment staff, curriculum coordinators, and assessment contractors to help maintain a smooth statewide assessment program.
What we're looking for
  • Bachelor Degree required in Data Science, Data Analysis, Business Intelligence, Statistics, or related field.
  • At least three to five years of experience working with large data sets and providing analysis with proficiency in:.
    • SQL queries
    • Tableau
    • Or Power BI
    • Or SPSS
    • Or other Data manipulation software
  • Strongly communicate analysis and irregularities to IDOE staff and external school or school corporation partners
  • Must be able to prioritize, organize and manage time to meet deadlines
  • Ability to edit publications of analysis
  • Maintaining detailed records and files
  • Maintain attention to critical details
