Summary/Objective:

Engineering Technician Supervisor performs as the technical team lead in material preparation, performance and interpreting test results related to policy and procedure.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Schedules all sample work flow not mandated by outside authority;
  • Evaluates laboratory equipment needs and procures items as necessary;
  • Completes the required annual competency review for maintaining technician qualification in the laboratory;
  • Maintains the calibration/verification of laboratory equipment under the Quality System manual for laboratory accreditation;
  • Records, reports and maintains accurate laboratory results;
  • Directs and/or performs complex calibration, maintenance and/or repair to laboratory equipment;
  • Provides training and technical guidance;
  • Assists with sample preparation and testing;
  • Assists in the preparation of the laboratory budget;

Preferred Experience:
Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or must obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Qualified in laboratory guidelines with the American Association of State Highway Transportation Organization (AASHTO) accreditation;
  • Working knowledge of all applicable lab specifications related to asphalt materials;
  • Extensive knowledge of specialized laboratory techniques and equipment;
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws,rules and regulations pertaining to laboratory operations;
  • Skilled in the operation and care of complex laboratory equipment;
  • Ability to conduct a wide range of established laboratory tests, both manual and automated;
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately prepare samples for testing purposes;
  • Knowledge of mathematics and ability to compute complex test data;
  • Ability to legibly record test results and maintain accurate laboratory records;
  • Ability to perform complex calibrations and repairs to laboratory equipment;
  • Ability to provide effective technical guidance to laboratory technicians;
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
